About

Barnett graduated with honors from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She met André Kertész, who became a friend and mentor, while working as an assistant to photography book editor Nicolas Ducrot. She later worked as an art / production editor at Viking Press and Reader's Digest General Books.

Barnett produced and executed feature and cover assignments in the USA and abroad for long term editorial and corporate clients including Fortune, Forbes, Newsweek, Time, Money, Modern Maturity (AARP), NBC, the TVA and Paramount.

She was the exclusive photographer for final week of Cheers.

Barnett was selected to participate in four Day in the Life books as well as The Power to Heal, The Story of Mothers and Daughters, Jerusalem: In the Shadow of Heaven, and America 24/7: West Virginia.

Teaching

New York University / International Center of Photography, 1995-2003

Taught intensive technical sessions on 35mm color transparency film. Included optics, lenses, filtration, mixed lightening, metering, film stock. Used lectures, slide shows, assignments, critiques, and equipment demonstrations to make difficult technical information as accessible as possible.
